CCP Lights Up in Red

THE façade of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Main Building will be illuminated in red color on September 1, 2020, Tuesday from 7pm-8pm.  The lighting event is CCP’s support to a worldwide cause of the live events industry led by the National Live Events Coalition (NLEC-PH).

The live events industry is a wide network of collaborators - planners, organizers, suppliers, talents, and freelancers.  NLEC-PH was formed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its critical impact on the live events industry to amplify the voices, to empower, and to be advocates for every event practitioner.

In order to raise awareness in the Philippines, the NLEC-PH is encouraging its fellow technical providers and rental companies to join in the campaign “Light up in Red” on the same date and time in support for all live event stakeholders.

The CCP fully supports these initiatives; and, as convenor of the Association of Philippine Performing Arts Spaces (APPAS), enjoins all its member-art spaces to participate in solidarity with NLEC-PH.

Ariel S.R. Yonzon, Associate Artistic Director for Production and Exhibition, CCP, said:  “The live events industry sector is a unique conglomeration of talent, skilled labor and service supply chain - many of whom have been direly affected by the pandemic; with mass gatherings embargo and quarantine protocols, in place.  We are all eager to get back to work and do what we love most - to interact and socialize, to present and perform, to fully experience live events with all our senses beyond mere virtual substitutes.  With Red Light September 1, let the light shine on our plight."

Tanghalang Pilipino presents "Lukot-Lukot, Bilog-Bilog"

Tanghalang Pilipino (TP), together with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and VISA, continues its mission of providing informative and highly-entertaining content online by streaming “Lukot-Lukot, Bilog-Bilog”, through “PansamanTanghalan”, TP’s digital platform on Youtube.

Written by Eljay Castro Deldoc and directed by Abner Delina, the play focuses on the financial challenges of SHS student Gwyneth as she makes her way to her dream university. Aided by various personalities in Philippine history, Gwyneth gets caught in different situations that will teach her, and the audience, about making informed financial decisions. “Lukot-Lukot, Bilog-Bilog” was staged last December 2017 at the CCP Little Theater, and has enjoyed a successful school tour since then.

The production will be streamed through “PansamanTanghalan,” Tanghalang Pilpino’s digital platform on their official Youtube channel.

As the demand for resources increases exponentially during this pandemic, financial literacy makes resource management more efficient. Tanghalang Pilipino this August

This August, Tanghalang Pilipino gives us enough reasons to have a grand celebration of Buwan ng Wika! Tara, samahan ninyo kami sa aming pagdiriwang:

✓ 'Bawat pahina, may saya at aral na dala!'

We jumpstart August with "Pamanang Pahina", an online storytelling series, featuring selected children's books from OMF Literature-Hiyas. Members of the Actors Company narrate these magical stories, accompanied by the striking visuals of Anino Shadowplay Collective! "Pamanang Pahina" kicks off with Yna Reyes' "Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Bing Butiki" (with illustration by Jason Moss), adapted for this performance by Nono Pardalis. It will be available for streaming starting TOMORROW (August 2)!

✓ 'Ang pagbubunyag na tunay na naglalagablab!'

Get to know a man who has valiantly fought for freedom countless times but you may not have heard of yet. Listen to the insights of this ill-fated general in Floro Quibuyen's "Heneral Rizal", directed by Chuck Guttierez, and featuring a sterling performance from Nanding Josef. "Heneral Rizal" will also be part of Cinemalaya 16, under the Premiere section. "Heneral Rizal" will be available starting August 16!

✓ 'Ibibida ang pagmamahal sa wika gamit ang musika!'

The power of Filipino lyricism takes the centerstage in the second installment of "Handa, Awit"! Featuring the songs from the musicals, 'Noli me Tangere' and 'Walang Sugat', "Handa, Awit" will make you even prouder of our language! "Handa, Awit" will be available for streaming on August 30!

*All videos will be available in TP's PansamanTanghalan (TP’s official Youtube channel)!

✓ 'Ang karunungang atin at mas lalong pagyamanin!'

We also have two (2) special workshops geared to help you find the right notes! iKAPWA will be exploring and experimenting with the power of music and theater in 'Pangmalakasang Indak, Tono, at Aktingang walastik ang Kasangga mo ngayong Pandemic!' (Acting in Musical Theater) and 'Tala-Tunugan: Pagbabalik-tanaw at Pagtuklas sa Pamamagitan ng Musika't Tunog' (Sound Design), starting on August 15 until August 30. Workshop fee is only Php2500. Please contact Ms. Lorelei Celestino to register.

Masaya nating ipagdiwang ang Buwan ng Wika, kahit na tayo'y nasa gitna ng pandemya! Hinding-hindi mabubura ang ipinagmamalaki nating wika!

Cinemalaya 2020

TWO provocative and award-winning full length documentary films selected by acclaimed film director and screenwriter Clodualdo del Mundo will be offered in Cinemalaya 16’s Dokyu section.  These are Overseas by Sung-A Yoon and Elihiya sa Paglimot (An Elegy to Forgetting) by Kristoffer Brugada.

Cinemalaya 16 opens on August 7 and runs until August 16 on the Vimeo platform.

The two films in Dokyu section, Del Mundo said, are portraits of individuals--- a group of women who are patronizingly described as today’s heroines and an old man who has lost his memory.

“Overseas, by French-South Korean filmmaker Yoon Sung-A, creates an empathetic film about Filipina women who are training for their work in foreign lands as domestic helpers,” Del Mundo said.  “What is especially interesting is the way Yoon Sung-A mixes documentary with her own imaginative perspective.”

“Elihiya sa Paglimot (Elegy to Forgetting)”, on the other hand, Del Mundo said, “is a filmmaker-son’s portrait of his father who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.  Kristoffer Brugada, the filmmaker-son, records his father’s journey to forgetting.”

Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival is a project of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc.  Established in 2005, Cinemalaya is an all-digital film festival and competition that aims to discover, encourage and honor cinematic works of Filipino filmmakers.
