The Cultural Center of
the Philippines turns itself into a Center for Choral Performance
starting this year as it offers an exciting variety of choral music
concerts and workshops for choirs and choral conductors and an
international choral festival under its choral music program.
The following choral music events are lined up for the year:
April 1-6, 2014: Madz et al. Choral Festival
A festival of choir
performances of more than 50 choirs under the helm of alumni conductors
of the Philippine Madrigal Singers, in celebration of the 30th year of
the Madz et al. Seven choirs will be featured every concert night of the
Festival.
The influence of the
Philippine Madrigal Singers on the Philippine and Asian choral scene has
been far-reaching. Since 1963, more than 200 singers have joined the
choir, many of whom are now choral and vocal pedagogues actively
involved in organizing and conducting choirs. This eventually led to the
organization of the Madz Et Al, a network of choirs who gather
regularly for festivals and workshops. To date, the network has a
membership of almost 60 choirs from all over the country. This
contributes to the now very active choral life in the Philippines.
June 28 & 29, 2014: 50th Anniversary Closing Concert
The concert of the Philippine Madrigal Singers to close its 50th
anniversary year celebration. This concert will also feature the choir
formed under their “Sing Philippines” Program wherein selected choral
singers from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will meet and undergo training
to form this select choir.
October 21-25, 2014: CCP Hands-on Choral Workshop
The annual choral workshop
of the Cultural Center of the Philippines which started in year 2000.
This training program gathers choirs and conductors from different parts
of the country who undergo a 5-day intensive training program in choral
singing, conducting and performance. The Workshop culminates in a
choral performance at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo on the last day.
It is a highly regarded training program which has produced winners in
local and international choral competitions.
July 21-25, 2015: Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival, Manila 2015
The 2nd Andrea O.
Veneracion International Choral Festival, Manila 2015 on July 21-25,
2015 opens its doors to choirs from different parts of the world to
compete in three choir categories: Folk, Vocal Ensemble and Chamber
Choir. This follows the highly successful 1st Andrea O. Veneracion
International Choral Festival, Manila 2013 held on August 7-10, 2013 in
celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Philippine Madrigal Singers
which marked the first international choral competition in the country.
