Philippines Dance Delight Vol. 02 at SM Skydome

Everything is set as the renowned Dance Delight competition heads back to the Philippines this April 12, 2014, 6PM at the SM Skydome. The question is, are you ready? Will you be the next local champion?

Following the groundbreaking success of the first ever Philippines Dance Delight held last March 2013 at the Ateneo de Manila University Henry Lee Irwin Theatre, O School (Singapore) and A-TEAM (Philippines), in partnership with Lenovo, will be bringing back the competition for its second year – this time bigger and better.

Register your crew of two to six (2-6) members via online video submission, and get the chance to be a part of the top 25 crews who will be competing in PDD Vol. 02 for the title of being this year’s local champion. The top 3 winners of the Philippines Dance Delight will get a direct entry to the Singapore Dance Delight finals. The champion will be granted full sponsorship (round-trip airfare and accommodations) by the organizers, while the 1st and 2nd runners up will proceed at their own expense. The champion of the Singapore finals will then represent the region in the final leg of the competition in Japan.

Created by legendary Japanese breakdance team “Angel Dust Breakers” Mitsuhiro Harada a.k.a. Machine in 1994, Dance Delight became the first nationwide street dance competition in Japan. Since then, the competition has been creating big waves not only in the local scene but also in the global dance world. After 16 years, Japan Dance Delight has become one of the biggest international street dance competitions in the world, with participating cities/countries that include Paris (France), New York (USA), Taipei (Taiwan), Shanghai (China), Seoul (South Korea), and Singapore among others. More than a thousand crews would compete against each other in a series of regional competitions and the emerging top crews flock to the final leg in Japan, hoping to claim victory amidst an audience of up to 10,000 people.

“From watching the competitions these past years, I am so impressed with the skills and ambitions of the dancers every year,” Machine says. “It is a dance contest, so there will be rankings, but dance is very artistic and so it can’t be rated as they do with time records in sports. In this sense, there’s no set definition for what is right and wrong. And so every year, it evolves from the young people’s new ideas and emotions. I think it will continue to evolve further. This is the most dynamic and fun part about the competition.”

In the year 2013, the idea of Philippines Dance Delight was introduced. Instead of needing to travel to Singapore twice if they were to be selected amongst the Top 20 finalists for Singapore Dance Delight, the top 3 teams from the regional Dance Delight will then be given a direct entry into the Singapore Dance Delight Finals. Brought to life by its main organizer, O School from Singapore, and its local partner A-TEAM, and presented by Lenovo, PDD’s debut in the country was warmly welcomed by the Philippine hip hop dance community. With over fifty (50) teams registered through online video submission, competition was tight, but only one champion emerged – Las Piñas-born group Flipendemic Kru.

This year, as Philippines Dance Delight comes back in the scene, will you be the next local champion?

Philippines Dance Delight Vol. 02 is set to happen on April 12, 2014 at the SM Skydome North EDSA. Presented by Lenovo. Produced by O School Singapore and A-TAM Philippines. Tickets are available through A-TEAM members at PHP 200 each.
