Kuwerdas ng Pagkakaisa: Philippine Rondalla Festival is presented by
the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through the
Musicological Society of the Philippines (MSP) in partnership with the
Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and in cooperation with the UP
Center for Ethnomusicology.
DESCRIPTION:
Kuwerdas ng Pagkakaisa: Philippine Rondalla Festival is the launching
event of Cuerdas Global: Fourth International Rondalla / Plucked String
Music Festival 2014. The best rondalla groups in the Philippines and
plucked string ensembles of selected countries will participate in the
Festival. Kuwerdas ng Pagkakaisa: Philippine Rondalla Festival
underscores the Filipino excellence in rondalla music . This Festival
is also an occasion to pay tribute to composers, conductors and
dedicated rondalla teachers who have contributed greatly in the
development of rondalla music in the Philippines and abroad.
FESTIVAL EVENTS
The Festival features the following:
A. Concert
The concert will offer a performance repertoire that includes classic and avant-garde compositions by Filipino composers; Baroque composition by Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Arcangel Corelli and George Frideric Handel; and overtures by Filipino and foreign composers.
B. Exhibition on Philippine Rondalla
An exhibition on the history and development Philippine rondalla. Open to the public, the exhibition will feature significant data, objects, plucked string instruments, photographs and other materials that will promote an understanding and appreciation of the Philippine rondalla.
C. Forum on Rondalla Instruments Development
To be held for the first time in the Philippines, a forum between the rondalla artists and instrument makers, designers and manufacturers will be convened to discuss ways of enhancing the rondalla instrument making in the country.
D. Parangal Rondalla
To pay tribute to artists, teachers, composers who have contributed in the development of rondalla music in the Philippines, an awarding ceremony is set on the Closing Night of the Festival. This event hopes to inform the public about the unwavering commitment of the awardees in carrying the wonderful tradition of rondalla music that remains dynamic until today.
