Ballet Philippines closes its 44th season with “The Art of Dance”.
This mixed bill boasts two distinct repertoires: Day for general
patronage and Night for mature audiences. Both sets of performances
feature varied dance forms in a stunning display of technique, talent,
contrast, and artistry. Audiences are sure to get a taste of BP’s
versatility from its performances of the classic Black Swan Pas de Deux
restaged by Victor Ursabia, Agnes Locsin’s Moslem, and “Zebra”, a new
and provocative contemporary piece by France-based choreographer and BP
alumnus Ernest Mandap, just to name a few.
ARTIST INFORMATION:
Ernest MandapAcclaimed choreographer and BP alumnus Ernest Mandap returns with his first piece for the company, “Zebra”. Mandap’s journey into dance started at age 9, studying tap dance under Bing Locsin and Teta Sugay. Five years later, he ventured into classical ballet under Noordin Jumalon and Bill Morgan, and modern dance under Agnes Locsin and Norman Walker. Mandap became a part of the pioneer batch of Ballet Philippines II, under the direction of Agnes Locsin. He has since been based in France for 22 years, where he joined Le Jeune Ballet de France, danced with the Centre Chorégraphique National de Nantes Claude Brumachon-Benjamin Lamarche, co-founded the company Anima’s Animal Art / Esther Aumatell Ester, and worked with numerous celebrated dancers and choreographers. He received Le Diplome d'Etat (The Diploma of State) as a dance instructor in contemporary dance in France, and in 1994 he received a "Parangal ng Bayan" (People's Tribute) at Malacañang Palace. He spends most of his time teaching contemporary dance to dancers of all ages.

"The Art of Dance" also features new works by Artistic Director Paul Alexander Morales, and company members Edana Labitoria and Gillianne Gequinto, excerpts of classical works restaged by Ballet Master Victor Ursabia, and revivals of works by Denisa Reyes, Agnes Locsin, and Alden Lugnasin.
