Cantus Puero (Song for the Child)

The University of the Philippines College of Music greets the new year with a bright concert billed Cantus Puero(Song for the Child) on a January 16, 2014, 6:30PM, at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium in Quezon City.

A collaborative vocal chamber music concert, the event features sopranos Sherla Najera, Stefanie Quintin, countertenor Mark Carpio, tenor Ervin Lumauag with guest oboist Franz Ramirez and pianist Augusto "Agot" Espino. They will perform some of the most endearing sacred art music that expresses man's feelings in relation to the divinity and manifestation of the God-Child or Sto. Niño and to the devotion and loving role of Mother Mary in the history of Christian salvation.

The concert program consists of solos, duos, trios and quartets from J. S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio, A Vivaldi's Gloria, Purcell's "Let the Bright Seraphim" soprano duet with trumpet, R Vaughn Williams' "Ten Blake Songs," and traditional carols arranged by Sir David Willcocks. An original composition by Alejandro Consolacion titled "Mary's Lullaby" will open the show.
Admission ticket to the January 16 concert is Php250. Students with valid IDs are entitled to 50 percent discount and senior citizens, 20%.
