The 1st Philippine Music Festival in the Philippines: Fusion 2015

Music defines the Filipino culture. Our history is brimming with it. Our forefathers have carried songs that narrated the story of our lands, our riches, our battles and our heritage.

Music today has taken quite a different shape – there are now genres and sub-genres, and crossovers between music identified as rock, pop, hip-hop, or indie among other things. But today, music still performs that same function that it always has: recall the tale of our origins, and preserve the story of our times.

Tanghalang Pilipino's Melanie

A project born out of a partnership between UNICEF and Tanghalang Pilipino, “Melanie” is a play that aims to entertain, engage and educate the audience, leaving them not only in a fit of giggles but also armed with knowledge regarding HIV and AIDS.

The process includes seminars on HIV 101 and Stigma Reduction, as well as workshops on Forum Theater, Psychodrama and Curriculum Development. The goal is to give not only information, but tools for the community to be able to create and develop their own ways to raise awareness, and eventually reduce the rise of HIV infections. This is a production that veers away from the usual actor-audience dynamics. There is an active interaction that (hopefully) breaks the barriers of ignorance, shame and apathy that become hindrances in stopping this silent virus.

Broadway’s 'Chicago: The Musical' Dazzles Manila Audiences

The Grand, The Great and The Fun: Broadway’s 'Chicago: The Musical' Dazzles Manila Audiences

Those who have seen the 2002 Academy Award-winning Rob Marshall film should be well-aware that Chicago has no intentions of teaching us “nice” things. Instead, the story revolves around the intricacies of sin, leaving its audience to be thoroughly entertained by the lives and antics of the Cook County Jail’s merry murderesses. Chicago has always been sexy enough on the silverscreen, but there is nothing quite like witnessing the entire spectacle unfold before one’s very eyes onstage.
Manila is more than fortunate enough to be the only Asian destination for this special run. The presence of Chicago: The Musical marks a series of many firsts for the Filipino theatre audience. Not only will it be the first Broadway showcase in Solaire’s brand-new, state of the art theatre, but it is also the very first time that this particular production has reached Philippine shores with a capable, talented international cast and crew in tow.

Mahal Ko O Mahal Ako By KZ Tandingan and Edwin Marollano

Himig Handog 2014 Entry #10: "Mahal Ko O Mahal Ako" By KZ Tandingan

By: Julie Ishihara

Who would you choose to be with: the one you love or the one that loves you?

We were taught that it would be an effortless endeavor. But still, love is both a feeling and an action and as human beings we're all obsessed with possibilities. When you really think about it, these things actually coexist in the sense that we both want to make the choice that will maximize the outcome of every possible situation, and we don’t want to leave that to chance. Yet the thing that (arguably) we feel matters most, we do leave to chance: love.

This big romantic dilemma has now been translated to a beautiful song, penned down by Edwin Marollano and interpreted by X-Factor Philippines winner KZ Tandingan.

The finals night of the country’s biggest multimedia songwriting competition, “Himig Handog Pinoy Pop (P-Pop) Love Songs 2014,” will happen this Sunday (September 28) at the Araneta Coliseum. Kapamilya stars Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, Robi Domingo, and Alex Gonzaga will host the event.

In the culmination of the latest edition of “Himig Handog,” the top 15 finalist songs, written by a mix of veteran and amateur Filipino composers, will be performed live by some of the brightest recording stars in the country.

Gold: Lisa Macuja - A Truly Classical Concert

Ballet Manila, Manila Broadcasting Company and Aliw Theater present "Gold: Lisa Macuja - A Truly Classical Concert" happening on October 4, 2014 at Aliw Theater.

On the heels of her highly acclaimed Swan Song Series, where our favorite prima ballerina said goodbye to her favorite full-length ballets, Lisa Macuja invites everyone to celebrate her 50th birthday with “GOLD: LISA MACUJA – A Truly Classical Concert”.
