Rakrakan Festival - OPM Rock Festival @ SM Mall of Asia

This coming December 21, 2013 at Coral Way Open Parking, SM Mall of Asia, Rakista Radio brings you the very first “Rakrakan Festival” – the biggest, the loudest, and inarguably the most ambitious OPM rock festival ever to be written in the annals of Philippine history.

And I’m not saying this just because I’m the writer of this article; I am saying this because I can actually feel it in my bones! For starters, we’re talking here about fifty of the most awesome bands in the country, both from the mainstream and indie scenes, blasting massive speakers simultaneously on two stages from the hot, sweltering humidity of the afternoon until the cool, breezy atmosphere of dawn.

And by “fifty of the most awesome bands in the country,” I’m speaking of metal kings Slapshock, Queso, and Greyhoundz; diverse and melodic like Urbandub, Wilabaliw, Chicosci, and Kjwan; eccentric and comical like Sandwich, Mom’s Cake, and Pedicab; poppy, female-fronted bands Imago, Moonstar 88, Gracenote, Drive Me To Juliet and Save Me Hollywood; dynamic and unique like Smooth Friction, Giniling Festival, Hilera, and Mr. Bones & The Boneyard Circus; serious and impassioned like Imbue No Kudos, Join The Club, Maryzark, Mayonnaise, and Ibarra; heavy and aggressive like Even, Switch, Philia, Saydie, and Valley of Chrome; and many, many others! In addition, three bands will be battling it out on the main stage for the Muziklaban Semi-Finals round (Greater Manila Area), adding a special “Battle of the Bands” feel to this rock-intense event!

Think that’s still not impressive enough?
Well, try sound-trippin’ live while cruising ten feet off the ground on a half-pipe ramp with your most-prized skateboard. LITERALLY.
Not just a night of music
What’s a festival without the “festivities,” right?
This year’s Rakrakan Festival, unlike the previous Rakrakan Series, features a free-for-all skateboarding display and exhibition, c/o Draven Shoes and Malachi Skateboarding, for all interested skaters out there. You don’t have to pay any extra fee; just bring your boards and/or roller-skates and show off those awesome skills and tricks together with thousands of others from the local skateboarding scene. Just a reminder, though: don’t forget to gear up for safety while doing those kick-flips and 360 tricks to avoid any injuries and/or any untoward incidents from happening. Always remember: “Prevention is better than any cure.”

But wait, there’s more!
If you think that we’re going to leave you out there all worn out, hungry and thirsty, and drenched in sweat with all the headbanging and skateboarding that you’ve been doing all afternoon, think again. Rakrakan Festival has more than just eargasmic music and extreme sports in store for you!

Over fifty indie merchandisers and food concessionaires are scattered all over the vast Coral Way parking lot to satiate every hardcore Rakista’s taste for quality shopping and dining. Grab a barbecue, dumpling, silog meal, or Shawarma sandwich while browsing through hundreds of souvenir items like t-shirts, caps, bags, key chains, mugs, bracelets and many other choices at very affordable rates. And once you’re filled up and broke (just kidding, of course) from all the bargain hunting and eating, you can just go back to diving in the mosh or wowing out the crowd with your astounding skate tricks.
Rock, skate, shop, and eat. Rinse and repeat.
Just too good to miss!
Now that I’ve probably gotten your attention about Rakrakan Festival with all the bands and extra-curricular activities that you will be missing if you fail to join us on December 21, here are a few important things to remind yourself of: gates open at 2PM onwards (the concert ends at 4AM the next day) and tickets are available at the venue at Php150 apiece, with free beer and other amazing surprises!

So save up, invite your friends, and ask your folks’ permission as early as now ‘cause this just might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you definitely don’t want to miss.
This is Rakrakan Festival. You rock ‘til you drop!

Rakrakan Festival is brought to you by Rakista Radio. Co-presented by Red Horse Beer, Draven Shoes, and Premiere Condoms, sponsored by Monster Energy Drink, and supported by Malachi Skateboarding.
