CARRIE
White is a misfit. At school, she’s an outcast who’s bullied by popular
crowd, and virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she’s at the
mercy of her loving but cruelly over - protective mother. But CARRIE’s
just discovered she’s got special power, and if pushed too far, she’s
not afraid to use it…
CARRIE, based on the modern classic by Stephen King, with music by
Academy Award Winner Michael Gore, Lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean
Pitchford and a Book by Lawrence D. Cohen (who wrote the screenplay of
the Brian de Palma film), tells the tragic story of a misunderstood high
school teenager named Carrie White with extraordinary telekinetic
powers. Terrorized by her oppressive religious fanatic mother and
bullied by her classmates, Carrie’s violent rampage of revenge remains
one of the most terrifying stories of all time. It will be directed by
Bobby Garcia.

Markki Stroem made his professional musical theatre debut as Henry in Atlantis Productions’ hit staging of NEXT TO NORMAL. He now takes on the role of Tommy Ross, the school’s star athlete and school valedictorian who plays a pivotal role in the life of Carrie White.
Markki says of joining the cast of CARRIE, “I have always been a fan of Stephen King, and I am a sucker for unconventional stories. I’m a huge horror fan and mixing that with musical theatre makes a combo of two of my favorite “genres.” I am very excited to start cracking on the material with this awesome cast.”
Playing the lead role of Carrie White is musical theatre actress Mikkie Bradshaw, who takes her her first lead role. The role of Carrie, originally played on Broadway by Linzi Hateley, is one of the most demanding written for a female lead. Mikkie says of her first lead role, “ I am so tremendously excited. This is what I set out to do the moment I stepped out of high school. I’m so thankful for this chance. It’s really a dream come true. I get to work with Bobby Garcia again, the music is amazing, I love blood. The role just gives me so much to look forward to. I get to push myself emotionally. Plus, I get to be slapped around by Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo! There’s so much i’m looking forward to I can’t even wrap my head around it.” Mikkie has appeared in Rock of Ages, Nine, andDisney’s Aladdin.
Bobby Garcia, who marks 20 years of directing this year, says, “I can’t wait to begin rehearsals for CARRIE. It is a musical that I have been a fan of for 25 years. I have been working closely with the writers of the musical who have been so generous and supportive of our production. It is a beautifully tragic retelling of the Cinderella story with an amazing Broadway pop score. We have assembled a fantastic cast and I can’t wait to start creating the show with all of them in the room.”
Atlantis Productions was also given permission by the writers to release a 4-track EP CD of CARRIE featuring the Original Manila Cast. The CD will be released in time for the opening of CARRIE and will be sold at the theatre lobby and at Atlantis Productions. Markki and Mikkie will both be featured on the Cast Album along with cast members Menchu Lauchengo-Yulo (Margaret White), Yanah Laurel (Sue Snell) and Shiela Valderrama-Martinez (Ms. Gardner).
