Two classical guitarists Lester Demetillo and Gerardo Duran from the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Music will perform a transcription of JS Bach's monumental "Goldberg Variations" BWV 988 on August 15, 2013, 6:30pm.
Lester Demetillo is one of the Philippines' leading classical guitar performers and teachers. He has been on the faculty of the University of the Philippines College of Music since 1980 and has founded the UP Guitar Ensemble, which he still directs. He has arranged numerous orchestral pieces for this guitar ensemble and his transcriptions, like the Goldberg Variations for two guitars, stretch the instrument's technical limits to the utmost, while retaining each score's original music lines.
In this concert, Lester will be joined by Gerardo Duran who used to teach music theory and classical guitar in UP College of Music from 1987 to 2002. Gerry is a member of the UP Guitar Ensemble since 1983 and has performed in Europe, the U.S., Australia, the Caribbean and Asia as soloist and as member of various performing groups.
Tickets to the show are priced at Php200 with special discounts for students and the elderly.
