2012
Aliw's Lifetime Achievement Awardee, University of the
Philippines Concert Chorus (Korus), with conductor Prof. Janet
Sabas-Aracama, is scheduled to perform in a concert billed "KOReoKAPELA:
KORUS, KOReografi & A KAPELA" on Friday, July 12, 6:30 pm at the
Abelardo Hall Auditorium, Quezon City.
The UP Concert Chorus (Korus) is the official choir of the University
of the Philippines. In 2012, UPCC joined three international
competitions and triumphed in all of them: the Festival Internacional de
Musica de Cantonigros in Catalonia, Spain; the 9th Cantemus
International Festival in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary, and in the prestigious
IV International Harald Andersen Chamber Choir Competition in Helsinki,
Finland. Upon the group's return to the Philippines, the National
Commission for Culture and the Arts recognized UPCC as one of the Ani ng
Dangal 2013 awardees. The group recently performed in a "concert for
friendship" in Sabah, Malaysia.
With a brilliant 50-year tradition of compelling interpretations,
vibrant choreography, theatrical expressions, eye-catching costumes, and
a charisma that is uniquely Filipino, Korus has a vast repertoire of
classical, folk, pop and Broadway music. In the concert,
their repertoire includes “Kruhay (Kinaray-a for “Welcome"), arr. by
Beny Castillon, on the festive arrival of the Bornean Datus in Antique
amidst sounds of traditional ethnic musical instruments kiling-kiling
(finger bells) and tultog (bamboo percussion); “Anak,” arr. Ralph
Hoffman, the iconic song composed by Freddie Aguilar, and “Bonggang
Gabi,” arr. Krina Cayabyab, a medley of “Magandang Gabi” by Willy Cruz
and “Bongga Ka ‘Day” by Hotdog.
Tickets for the show are priced at P250 with special discounts for students and the elderly.
