Gantimpala Theater's Batch 2013 Workshoppers Present Ang Kinang ni Kahlim

Ang Kinang ni Kahlim, with book and libretto by Jose Jeffrey Camañag and original music by Jesse Lucas, serves as the culminating production of Batch 2013, graduates of the annual Gantimpala Theater summer workshop for teens and young adults. Performance is on May 11, 2013, Saturday, the Santa Isabel College Auditorium, Taft Aveue, Manila.
The musical tells the story of Tatay God who just finished creating a colorless world. He assigns Archangel Michael (Alvin Duckert) and assistant Miguelito (Aljonas Ponio) to gather the Anghel ng mga Kulay so that they bring color to Tatay’s wonderful creation putting an end to all the dull and drab.

Composing the Angels of Colors are Wanda Pula (Andrea Mariana De Leon), Pao-Pao Dilaw (Jayson Carl Santos), Liraw Bughaw (Ayana Beatrice Poblete), Lotti Puti (Kristel Rose Alcazar) at Kahlim Itim (Macson Anthony Macaraig)

Each angel tries to out color each other except for Kahlim, the angel of black. He is sad because his hue connotes “dark, ugly and lonely.” As the musical progresses, Kahlim appreciates his “special shade of dark” specially its role in making the stars and moon shine brightly when night time comes.

Director Camañag quips, “This short musical highlights the power of cooperation, self-confidence. I believe that the minds and hearts of our young audiences and cast members will open and that they will bring home valuable lessons coming from the narrative, songs and dances. It highlights the importance of cooperation, teaches them how to be confident with their uniqueness and the value of friendship. ”

The other workshoppers portray various characters in the musical.

Supporting this annual Gantimapala tradition are Santa Isabel College Manila and the National Parks Development Committee.
