Visual
Music Carnival, the annual large-scale event organized and managed by
Deaf people is on its second year and is happening on April 20, from 4
p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Coral Way Parking Lot (beside SM Mall of Asia)
in Pasay City.
It is an outdoor event that aims to raise funds for the next generation of Video Relay Services (VRS) to aid the deaf and hard-of-hearing persons allowing them to gain access to a world of countless communication possibilities. Through the VRS, similar to public payphones, a VPAD (a touchscreen device with a camera operated by a sign language interpreter) will assist the deaf person to make calls anywhere in the world for free via real-time interpreting.
This year, the event fuses together music, extreme sports, and Cosplay with one common goal: To help the Deaf community raise funds and awareness to sustain the VRS services. There is also a special game called Zombiescapes, where participants can turn their zombie fantasies into a reality and dare to escape the zombie uprising. Participants will be chased by zombies who are hungry for brains as they collect as many flags throughout one tunnel. Participants are eligible to win an iPad mini and get bragging rights as Zombiescapes’ ultimate survivor.
Last year, The VMC was held at the Amoranto Stadium in a school fair-like setup with bungee jumping, bull rides, giant inflatable slide, game and merchandise booths with products made by PWDs and other unique artworks by deaf artists.
