Labs Kita Sabado By The Triplet Fret

Marga Abejo, Cate Belle and Jenny de Vera, collectively known as Triple Fret, shall take women power to the next higher level with their concert this Saturday, March 9, 2013, starting at 6:00 p.m. in Labs Kita, Sabado, in celebration of Women’s Month. Venue is the Central Section of Rizal Park, at the back the Rizal Monument.

Labs Kita, Sabado is another public service project of the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC), under the management of Executive Director Juliet H. Villegas, for the park-going public. NPDC Chief of the Cultural & Public Affairs Freddie Edos is the Executive in Charge of the project. Gie V. Arnold writes the script.

Triple Fret is an all-women classical guitar trio, which was formally launched in a mini-concert, in late 2011, at the UP School of Economics. But even before this, the girls have been active performers as members of the U.P. Guitar Orchestra and the Philippine Guitar Ensemble, under the music direction of one of the country’s leading classical guitarists, Lester Demetillo, Triple Fret has performed in numerous events for the past years such as in the 3rd International Guitar Festival and the Pasinaya Festival (2011 and 2012), all held at the Cultural Center of the Phils.

Their first solo concert was in Paco Park Presents last year, which was very well-received and which paved the way for more event invitations. Last June, the group was part of the 1st Philippine International Jazz and Blues Guitar Festival, which was held at the Sofitel Manila. Other noted performances by the group were in the 6th Backdoor Ventures Arts & Music Festival, in the luncheon for the Canadian Prime Minister in Malacanang, Cebu concerts for the Cebu Arts Council and GOPAC. The group aims to inspire young people, especially girls, to play an instrument such as the guitar which is (typically) known as a very masculine instrument.

Triple Fret shall interpret the following pieces, especially arranged for the trio: JOTA ARAGONAISE (Bizet); THE ENTERTAINER (Joplin); TICO TICO NO FUBA (Abreu); EL CHOCLO (Villoldo); LA CUMPARSITA (Rodriguez); POR UNA CABEZA (Gardel); TURKISH MARCH (Mozart); SPRING (Vivaldi); LERON-LERON SINTA (folksong); MANANG BIDAY (Ilocano folk song); SA UGOY NG DUYAN (National Artist Lucio San Pedro); SI FELIMON, SI FELIMON (Cebuano Folk song); BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (Queen); HOTEL CALIFORNIA (Eagles); and DANZA DEL SUR (Kaps).

Admission to Labs Kita, Sabado is free of charge. The public is cordially invited.
