Homecoming Concert - Oscar Yatco with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra

Conductor Laurente Maestro Oscar C. Yatco leads the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra in a homecoming concert on March 6, 2013 at CCP. Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater).
To celebrate the 200 years of Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi, the PPO will perform I Vespri siciliani Overture by Verdi and the Tannhauser Overture by Wagner. The program also includes the Symphony No. 6 Op. 74 in B minor (“Pathetique”) of Peter Tchaikovsky.

Oscar C. Yatco (OCY) obtained his “Teacher’s Diploma for Violin” at the UP College of Music at 16 years old. He continued his violin studies with Ivan Galamian at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, and later with Wilheim Stross at the Munich Music Academy in Germany. In 1964, he became a major figure in the development of the Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO).

In 1974, Yatco returned to Germany with his family. He held the position of First Concertmaster at the Mannheim National Theater Orchestra and First Concertmaster of the Wagner Festival Orchestra at Bayreuth for five consecutive years before he was appointed full professor for violin at the State College of Music in Hannover in 1979. In 1980, he was able to play a major role in the development of the newly established Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO).
