Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen ArtSpeak

Filipino-Danish artist Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen primarily engages in video and performance taking down her own identity and background as a point of departure.
She will be discussing her works in a public program called ArtSpeak, a lively lecture series of the Ateneo Art Gallery which will be held, this time, at Green Papaya Art Projects where Rasmussen is holding her artist residency in Manila.

Cuenca will present her past works wherein she gathers, adapts, and universalizes her narratives in both a critical and humorous approach in regards to issues such as identity, culture, religion, gender, social relations and art history by re- staging historical performances of other artists.

Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen’s talk is part of the public program of Ateneo Art Gallery’s all-female exhibition, YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT running from February 14 to April 20, 2013.

About ArtSpeak

ArtSpeak--a lively lecture series held periodically—which also involves lectures from guest curators and artists, enhancing the educational experience of the Ateneo Art Gallery. ArtSpeak aims to increase awareness, knowledge and understanding of Philippine modern and contemporary art in the belief that the experience will later generate support for Filipino art and artists.

About the exhibition at Ateneo Art Gallery

The exhibition, YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT, features contemporary female artists working with video, painting, photography, media and technology, creating process-oriented works that often involve collaborations, social interaction and the inclusion of real situations in their pieces. Their works reveals certain biographies wherein the personal becomes political. Manila, as a developing country, has been ranked high globally - as a country leading gender equality, closely following European counterparts. This makes it a very interesting point of interest for bold works that are open to in-depth research, chance and participation. This exhibition is curated by Lian Ladia.
