The design of AYIE (artist
name) of San Jose, Bulacan was chosen as the winner in the PAF 2013
poster and t-shirt design contest.
In November 2012, the NCCA’s PAF Secretariat held a poster and t-shirt design competition on the theme “Celebrating Icons.”
The 2013 Philippine Arts Festival’s theme turns the spotlight on the
outstanding creative expressions of Filipino artists in the fields of
dance, literature, theatre, visual arts, cinema, architecture and its
allied arts, music, including the traditional arts. “Celebrating Icons”
puts such Philippine arts icons into a much-deserved limelight, and
highlights this pride anew in the Filipino’s artistic excellence and
achievements.
Ayie’s design for both poster and t-shirt showed a seed that grew out
from the NCCA censer logo. In the accompanying Artist Statement for the
said entries, Ayie explains that the said design component symbolized a
new harvest from both young and old artists. The design also showed
silhouettes of different artists from different fields composing the
flame that arose from the censer. Ayie says that it symbolizes the
flexibility, love, and unity of Filipino artists performing locally and
abroad. His design, he further explains, reflects cultural unity, and
reiterates arts itself as the wealth of the country.
Ayie won P40,000 each from both categories making his total prize
P80,000. His design bested 20 other entries for the t-shirt design
contest, and 20 entries as well for the poster design contest.
Ayie’s design was judged by the PAF 2013 Artistic Committee based on
over-all impression, design and creative elements, adherence to the
theme, and originality.
Ayie, 33, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts major in
Advertising from Technological University of the Philippines, and is
currently a 2D and 3D graphic designer for a local company.
The other design entries will be on display at the NCCA Gallery on a soon-to-be-announced date.
