Malakañang Saturdays Performances

A night of poetry, performance art and sound art while surrounded by contemporary art pieces. Continuing where they last left off, Blot Art Studio’s Malakañang Thursday is now slated on a Saturday.
For January 12, a blend of live-painting, performance arts, music, and new artworks coming from local artists will be on display. The evening will feature Janine Delas, Skies of Ember performing their new original songs, and more.

This year, they started with a bang last January 5. New selections of furniture and improvements in the space were added giving the space a fresh eclectic style and a hard-kicking line-up of art performances from Bobby Balingit, The Sleepyheads, Anhura, Skies of Ember, Danny Sillada, Kwerdas, and more.

Poetry was performed by Danny Sillada before he proceeded with his original folk songs. The Nostalgia Exhibit, featuring Baguio and Manila Artists, is still available for viewing on the 2nd floor main exhibit hall. The exhibit acted as a bridge to connect Baguio artists and Manila artists, promising more opportunities to work together in the future. Paintings and other art assemblage hang on the wall for viewing and are also available on sale by local artists.

The art space offers a different experience to spending your Saturday nights, combining different art genres and making them work in a way where everyone can interact and be a part of. Musical performers that have played at the event are Skies of Ember, Tales of Ordinary Madness, Ruthless, Corvus Crowley, Regene Ong, Ang Planeta ng Ngiti, the legend Bobby “Wuds” Balingit, sound-artist Sleepersecond, Fitzroy, Escola de Samba de Manila, Ages :: 100, and South-African musician Kent Dylan.

For poetry, there’s Kooky Tuason, Raul Roco Jr, and Marty Tengco, spoken word artists who are part of the Romancing Venus group. Live-painting performers are Atsuko Yamagata, Takako Sono, and Sigmund Torre. Get the Vision, a group of three German women, spearheaded an art activity in the previous events where they demonstrated the concept of changing one’s perceptions through artistic 3D glasses made out of cardboards and materials used in daily life.

Malakañang Saturdays is an event at Blot Art Studio with a growing cult following and is creating ripples in the local art scene.
