Patron of the Arts - An Evening with the Cardinal

A concert for the restoration of the currently-closed Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, popularly known as the Manila Cathedral, will be held on December 12, 2012, 7 pm, at the Meralco Theater.
Dubbed "Patron of the Arts," the benefit concert brings together the country's top performers, especially those who have won awards, made headlines or been featured in top-rating shows on theater and television. The event will honor great Filipino artists with a lifetime achievement award.

Archbishop of Manila and newly-appointed Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle will grace the event and is expected to deliver inspiring words for the Christmas season.

"The concert affirms the Catholic Church's continuous support of the Arts," said JesCom Executive Director Fr. Nono Alfonso, SJ. "The innate creativity and talent of Filipinos is God's gift."

Supporters of the event will directly help in restoring the Manila Cathedral, the Primary Basilica of the Philippines. Concert sponsors, who will receive complimentary tickets for the concert, can promote their brands through advertisement, flyer distribution, logo displays and live acknowledgement during the event.

At least 90 million pesos is needed to fund the restoration project. The event will coincide with the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the first anniversary of Cardinal Tagle as Archbishop of Manila.

Organized by the Jesuit Communications, the "Patron of the Arts" is inspired by the "Royal Variety Show," an annual Christmas tradition in the United Kingdom where the best entertainment artists of the year perform before the Queen of England and the Royal Family. The show is considered an important social event, and attended by personages in full regalia.
