Originally
intended to be two separate one-woman shows for both members of the
Makati Arts Guild, the exhibits In Transit and Frozen in Time are too
inter-related, creating what can be fortuitously considered as a single
visual duet on temporality.
Both artists have, by chance, independently focused on unraveling ordinary "moments" to explore their ontological richness and invite the viewers into a meditation on the miniscule, mundane happenings that comprise the flow of time in their lives.
In Transit by Deborah Del-Pan is a suite of five oil paintings depicting various pregnant pauses by people, literally or figuratively, moving either through space or through some measure of personal time. The subjects of her works are people taking a moment between coming or going, between waiting and acting, between meeting and parting, between starting and ending, between lingering and leaving.
Helen Mirasol's Frozen in Time explores the medium of photography, a medium well-known for its ability to capture a moment as it happens. Mining the moment for its hidden treasure, Mirasol adds haikus to suggest to the viewer how to look for the enduring beauty in the fleeting moment.
The process in which these exhibits were brought about was a continual consultation between the artists and their fellow artists, this coordinator, and Makati Arts Guild mentor, Renato Habulan spanning almost a year. Intended as a follow through for the years the exhibiting artists spent under the tutelage of Habulan, this exhibit has been a journey of exploration and self-discovery for everyone involved.
