The National Commission for Culture and the Arts
(NCCA), through its Chairman, Prof. Felipe Mendoza de Leon, Jr., launched the commemorative stamp in honor of Mr. Carlos “Botong”
Francisco, National Artist for Painting In celebration of his 100th
Birth Centennial last November 4, 2012, through Proclamation No. 284,
which was signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III declaring the period
from November 4, 2012 to November 3, 2013 as the Centennial Year of
National Artist for Painting, Mr. Carlos “Botong” Francisco. Likewise,
the House of Representatives has issued House Joint Resolution No. 26,
introduced by House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr., Congressman Neptali
M. Gonzalez II, Congressman Edcel C. Lagman, Congressman Salvador H.
Escudero III, and Congresswoman Ma. Jocelyn V. Bernos.
The commemorative stamp in his honor was launched last November 9, 2012 at the NCCA Leandro Locsin
Auditorium, with NCCA Chair Felipe M. De Leon, Jr., Exec. Director
Emelita V. Almosara, Philpost executives, National Artist’s Francisco’s
relatives, Mayor Gerry V. Calderon of Angono, Rizal, his supporters and
friends from Angono, Rizal.
The Program also launched the 40 painting traveling
exhibit in honor of the artist and Maestro Lucio San Pedro, National
Artist for Music, who will be celebrating his centennial birthday on
February 11, 2013.
