Live Multimedia Performance

In celebration of Conectados, a multimedia project participated by artists from the Philippines, Spain and Mexico, Instituto Cervantes on November 10, 1 pm presents a live multimedia performance by two of Spain’s most established live-painting performers Suso33 and César Caballero.

Suso33, best known for his scribbled silhouettes and large expressive faces that adorn numerous walls throughout Spain and Europe, together with the Manila-based Spanish artist César Caballero will be making a large-scale energetic drawings and portraits live at the Spanish cultural center which will be recorded and web-hosted.

With a goal to create a live 'performance painting', Suso33 and Caballero will be inviting 40 people from the audience at Instituto Cervantes to leave their 'footprint' in the 24 x 8 feet mural that then be turned into a work of art.

"I'm bringing my own experience. I lived very interesting times in Madrid, I saw how much Madrid changed and the important role culture played in that change. Now in Manila I'd like to see this city grow hand in hand with culture, I'd like culture to be a major force in Manila," says Caballero on this joint collaboration.

This performance is part of Conectados which will formally open on November 8 at the Ayala Museum. A joint venture by the Ayala Museum, Instituto Cervantes, the Spanish Embassy in the Philippines, Spanish Chamber of Commerce, and the Embassy of Mexico in Philippines, this project will be participated by various artists-photographers from Manila, Mexico and Spain and will be co-curated by Caballero and Kenneth Esguerra, Ayala Museum's Senior Curator and Head of Conservation.

Apart from the live multimedia performance at Instituto Cervantes, Conectados will also have a photo exhibition at the Ayala Museum from November 8 to 25 as well as a five-night, five-hour simultaneous presentations of multimedia projections focusing on select works of the participating artists at the façade of the Ayala Museum, the Tower One arch, Makati Stock Exchange wall, The Link, and the Fashion Walk at Greenbelt 5 from November 8-12, from 6:00-11:00 PM.

Typography lecture and exhibit at Instituto Cervantes

Before the performance painting at 1pm, Instituto Cervantes will also have a lecture on typography at 10 am. Guests for this lecture include book illustrator Felix Mago, renowned graphic designers Isabel Gatuslao and AJ Dimarucot.

Currently on-going at Instituto Cervantes’ gallery hall is “Tipos Latinos”, an exhibit that offers a selection of some of the most interesting features of Latin American typographic design.

These works, which have been premiered in the first five editions of the Biennial of Latin American Typography, offer a new perspective on the art of type design. This exhibition is scheduled to run until December 22.

Conectados is presented by the Instituto Cervantes de Manila, Ayala Museum, the Spanish and Mexican Embassies in the Philippines, and AECID.
