Potted Potter Returns To Manila

Exhibit Talk: Fr. Jose Arcilla SJ on Diego Silang

A native of Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Diego Silang led a wide-ranging and initially successful revolt against Spanish authority during the British Invasion of 1762, but was killed by an assassin shortly after his rebellion began.
A member of the Ilocos principalia, a trader, and a courier for the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, he was in Manila during the British Invasion, where he observed that Spanish authority could be defeated. Aggrieved like his provincemates by the oppressive tribute demanded by local Spanish officials, he took advantage of the Spanish military chaos, and led Ilocos in armed rebellion.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is now accepting entries for the BSP Tanaw: Art Competition 2012. The competition is open to professional and non-professional artists who are Filipino citizens and are prize winners in national competitions and has participated in international expositions and art fairs.

La Luna Roja in RCBC Theater

Fundacion Centro Flamenco is celebrating its 10th year anniversary in the Philippines with a flamenco show entitled "La Luna Roja" (the Red Moon) in RCBC Theater on December 1.
The show is the interpretation of an original story conceptualized by Emma Estrada. A fairytale with a distinctly flamenco flavor, it is the tale of a curse cast upon the daughters of Aydanamara, a beautiful but selfish young woman who broke the heart of a sorceress’s son. The work is directed by Leo Rialp.

Philippine Animation Festival 2012 - Animahenasyon 2012

In an effort to build an audience, awareness and development of original contents, ACPI puts together its flagship project through an annual animation festival called Animahenasyon that showcases original animated works of both aspiring and professional animators in the country through a competition.
The festival is composed of the professional and the student/amateur divisions that will have different running time categories. There are also categories for music video, title sequence, public information, demo reel, and TV series. Special screenings of animation flicks from different countries will also be shown during the festival.

Iraqi Musician Naseer Shamma at the CCP

Iraqi musican Naseer Shamma, who is one of the most esteemed and prolific Oud players today, will be in Manila for a concert on December 3, 2012, 7 PM at the CCP. The concert entitled “An Oud Concert: The Spirit of Naseer Shamma” is a presentation of the CCP, the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq and The Spouses of Head of Mission.

The Oud is an Arabian folk instrument, an ancestor of the guitar and parent of the European lute. Its name comes from the word al'ud, which means a tree. The Oud is central to medieval and modern Islamic music.

The concert shall feature a newly-commissioned work by upcoming composer Carlo Manuel Serrano, entitled "Motet of Thanksgiving", along with fresh choral arrangements of both traditional and contemporary Christmas music.

In many aspects, its functions and perceptions could be diversified, for example, to exchange for something else, to transfer from one to another, to make the form, nature or content of something different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone, e.g. to change one’s mind, change one’s opinion. To become different, to become altered or modified, to become transformed or converted, e.g. colors change if they are exposed to the sun, summer changes to autumn, his face changes into red, change hands (to pass from one owner to another), change a plan, even to change off (to take turns with another),or to pass on one phase to the following one.

Ballet Manila offers a modern take on the classic fairy tale Cinderella in its Christmas production, combining the elements of love, magic and dance in a fun and enchantment-filled package perfect for the holidays.
In Sinderela, the prince becomes matinee idol Al Principe who holds a search for his leading lady through a grand dance audition. With the help of her fairy godmother Tita Nia, Sinderela gets to show off her dancing skills which are far more refined than those of her wicked stepsisters. But at the stroke of midnight Sinderela hurriedly departs, leaving behind her slipper and an awestruck Al to figure out who its rightful owner is.

En Danza : A Spanish Contemporary Dance and Flamenco

Spanish dance is ready to enrapture Manila once again. Instituto Cervantes de Manila and the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines present En danza, a Spanish contemporary dance and flamenco season that will bring the newest of Spanish dance scene this November.

Spanish choreographer Eduardo Guerrero will also be conducting a dance master-class for advanced students on November 26, 10:30 am at Instituto Cervantes’ Salon de Actos. A contemporary show from one of the most renowned Spanish dance companies, Teresa Nieto & Co., and a flamenco performance featuring the young and promising dancer and choreographer Guerrero will take place at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza on November 20 and 27, at 7.00 pm respectively.

NCCA Launched Commemorative Stamp of Carlos "Botong" Francisco

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), through its Chairman, Prof. Felipe Mendoza de Leon, Jr., launched the commemorative stamp in honor of Mr. Carlos “Botong” Francisco, National Artist for Painting  In celebration of his  100th Birth Centennial   last November 4, 2012, through Proclamation No. 284, which was signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III declaring the period from November 4, 2012 to November 3, 2013 as the Centennial Year of National Artist for Painting, Mr. Carlos “Botong” Francisco.  Likewise, the House of Representatives has issued House Joint Resolution No. 26, introduced by House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr., Congressman Neptali M. Gonzalez II, Congressman Edcel C. Lagman, Congressman Salvador H. Escudero III, and Congresswoman Ma. Jocelyn V. Bernos.
