Orosman at Zafira at the CCP

It is said that love can start a million wars, but it is also with love that we end all of which we’ve started.”The Cultural Center of the Philippines and Dulaang UP team up in bringing back to the stage the critically-acclaimed blockbuster production of “Orosman at Zafira” for the 4th National Theater Festival set on Nov. 17, (8 pm) and Nov. 18 (3 pm) at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino, Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Considered as one of the best-written works of Francisco Baltazar, the “King of Tagalog Poets,” OROSMAN AT ZAFIRA tells the story of three warring tribes in thirst for power. Amid hatred and war, the universality of this play focuses on encompassing love. Every character gets caught up in their own connotation of love, to each his own definition, his own reason, and his own consumption. And from familial to romantic, from egoistic to altruistic. A quest for love.“OROSMAN AND ZAFIRA” is directed and choreographed by Dexter M. Santos with original music by Carol Bello. Reprising their roles in this production are noted actors Delphine Buencamino (Zafira), Jay Gonzaga (Orosman), Roeder Camanag (Abdalap), Jean Judith Javier (Gulnara), Tao Aves (Zelima), Ricky Ibe and Nazer Salcedo (Boulasem), Neil Tolentino (Mahamud) and Ronnie Martinez (Ben-Asar). Chuck Hipol (Aldervesin) and Kierwin Larena (Zelim) will essay their roles for the first time.OROSMAN AT ZAFIRA premiered in February 2008 and was re-staged last August 2010 to sold-out, standing-room-only performances at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, UP Diliman.
Due to numerous inquiries and requests for more “repeat” performances, Bit by Bit Development Company re-staged it at the SM Mall of Asia Centerstage Theater in 2011. The November 2012 production of “Orosman at Zafira” is made possible by the CCP and the Office of the President, University of the Philippines. Don’t fail to watch “OROSMAN AT ZAFIRA”.
