Kabataang Gitarista Program by the CCP


The Artist Training Division, under the newly established Arts Education Department of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, is organizing the Kabataang Gitarista Program, a classical guitar program for the youth, which shall offer free weekly classical guitar lessons to interested public high school students. This training program, organized in cooperation with Guitar Friends, a group of guitar enthusiasts from the private sector, seeks to:

1. Promote appreciation for and interest in classical guitar performance among public high schoolstudents
2. Provide selected youth regular classical guitar instruction of the highest level
3. Develop a self-sustaining performing classical guitar ensemble of the highest level.
Forty students shall be accepted to the Program from Manila and Pasay City public high schools. The students shall be under the tutelage of well respected classical guitar arranger and professor Maestro Jose Valdez.

The participants of the Kabataang Gitarista Program should have the following qualifications:

1. 12 to 17 years old
2. Possess high interest in learning the classical guitar on a regular basis
3. Can commit to the program for at least one year
4. Possess good moral character
5. Be at least average or higher in scholastic standing
6. Should own a guitar with nylon strings and be able to bring it to the weekly lessons

The weekly lessons shall take place every Saturday from 8 AM to 10:30 AM at the GSIS Theater Lobby, 3rd floor, GSIS Building, at the CCP Complex and is scheduled to start on August 25. Registration will start at 7:30 AM. Interested Music Teachers are also invited to observe and participate, free of charge.
