Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas Features Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio on Stage

Two most renowned men, one remarkable period in Philippine history. Each came from different walks of life - one is a well-heeled and educated man, and the other a rugged but honest worker. Both of these men struggled for one unfathomable desire - to protect and free the country from the Spanish colony.

Last June 12, 2012, the Philippines celebrated its 114th year of independence from Spain. And the two most renowned men who effectuated this independence are Dr. Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio. After more than a hundred years, do we still remember how these men fought for our country?

Dulaang Laboratoryo in cooperation with Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas on its 35th year, present a 1995 Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature 1st prize winner, Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio’s Dalawang Bayani: Jose at Andres through a new approach by director Amihan Bonifacio-Ramolete and Ang Pagong at ang Tsonggo.

This twin bill is a thesis production of two B.A Theater Arts students who are also Mulat puppeteers. The plays will be staged on August 23-25, 2012 at Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio Teatro Papet Museo.

Let us reawaken the past, commemorate the bittersweet happenings of the country in the name of freedom. Featuring the puppets of Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas, The Company reunites Dr. Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio onstage to reminisce and narrate to us our triumphant history.
