Philbanda Wind Orchestra

The Philbanda Wind Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Herminigildo Ranera, takes center stage in Concert at the Park, starting at 5:00 p.m., at the Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium, Manila. Ms. Minette Padilla hosts the show.

Concert at the Park is a regular weekly public service project of the Department of Tourism, under Sec. Ramon Jimenez Jr., the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC), under Executive Director Juliet H. Villegas, and the People’s Television. NPDC Cultural & Public Affairs Division Freddie A. Edos is the Executive in Charge of the project. Gie V. Arnold writes the script.

Philbanda was formally registered on July 28, 2011, through the effort of Mr. Jose Jerry Samonte together with Ariel Sta. Ana and other PPO members. But the seed of its formation was planted by its current conductor and music director Herminigildo Ranera of the UST Conservatory of Music. His initial involvement with the Asia-Pacific Band Directors Association in 1984; the participation of the UST Wind Orchestra in the 4th Asian Band Festival and competition in Thailand; and his eventual meeting with the officers of the Asia-Pacific Band Directors Association, paved the way to the formation of the Philippine Band Association or Philbanda. Philbanda has just returned from a very successful performance in the 17th conference and band festival of the Asia-Pacific Band Directors Association in Singapore last July 25-29, 2012.

For its homecoming concert, Philbanda has prepared the following program: DAHIL SAYO MARCH (Trans: A. Jacinto); MT. VESUVIUS (Tichell); KAY GANDA NG ATING MUSIKA AT ANAK (Trans: T. Guerzo); SLAVA OVERTURE (Trans: C. Grundale); CONCERTO DE AMORE (J. Haan); BUGLER’S HOLIDAY (Anderson) featuring Glober Calambro, Edwin Matias and Felipe Rolando Cruz, trumpets); RHAPSODY IN BLUE (Arr: N. Iwai); and CHILDREN OF SANCHEZ (Trans: K. Foley).

Admission to Concert at the Park is free of charge. The public is cordially invited.
