A Talk On Museum Education by Louise Anne Marcelino

The Spill is a series of talks to encourage discussions on various art forms, styles and contexts, share ideas, engage audiences in critical inquiry, and initiate dialogues related to artistic and cultural pursuits.

This edition of The Spill examines educational programs of cultural institutions such as museums, galleries, art centers and artist-run spaces. Marcelino will impart the result of her research as part of the 2011 International Fellowship in Cultural Studies of Contemporary Art at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea. Her paper titled Inflections: A Run-through of Education in/between Spaces of Contemporary Art explores the initiatives implemented by various art spaces in Seoul as their contribution on the pedagogic function of contemporary art.

She will also share her insights as a researcher involved in developing and implementing education programs for museum exhibitions and her participation in co-organizing activities in platforms outside of the museum. The talk will be complemented with a discussion on the gallery’s ongoing exhibition, Veejay Villafranca’s Faith Above Fate as she suggests approaches to enrich the education component of the exhibit.

Louise Anne Marcelino is a Museum Researcher at the Vargas Museum, University of the Philippines in Diliman. She received her bachelor’s degree in Art Studies in 2007 and is currently a graduate student of Museum Studies in the same university. In 2011, she was a research fellow at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea. Her research interests include systems of representation (museums, heritage houses, monuments) in particular cities; artist-run spaces and initiatives; and museum education.

Entrance for The Spill is free and open to the public.
