Lipa Actors Company Stages more Plays in its Third Season

Lipa Actors Company Premieres More Thrilling Plays for Its 3rd Season
MIS 07.18.2012

Regarded as the sole community based theater organization in Batangas; Lipa Actors Company will open POSIBLE TRES Third Season with the restaging of ANG LUHA NI KUMINTANG at Canossa Academy Gym Lipa City on August 24, 2012 with 10:00AM and 2:00PM shows. KUMINTANG was staged last February as part of the company’s TWOKLAS Second Theater Season. It earned commendable reviews from local and Manila audiences alike.

For this season, the company will be staging works of world master playwrights with December production of  L'Avare au l'École du mensange (The Miser) by French playwright MOLIERE and a production of  SOPHOCLES’ Oedipus The King for February. According to MR. LUISITO NARIO, LAC Artistic Director,

“This season is totally different and totally challenging for LAC… working with materials such as Moliere’s and Sophocles defies not only our artistic potential but also our economic capacity as well. Sustainability measures for the company are always a challenge. We have to keep fueled for our theater mission even we do not profit from our shows. Though most members are volunteer, I believe, I have to keep them alive…”
This is also one of the reason why the company cut-off their productions from three play productions to two production this year. “Kumintang restaging is one way of sourcing funds for our third season” told by MR. JOEMAR SUSTENTO, the company’s production designer and associate artistic director. “Yes, we have kind-hearted people as our season sponsors but they are very few. We cannot depend on sponsorships alone. I remember Sir Lui explaining to us the dynamics of marketing and it has something to do with that dynamics that is why local theater are having a hard time getting sponsors. Anyway we are for art and not for profit…” Sustento adds as he grins seriously.

And Sustento knew how to grin very seriously as he will be doing his first full-length play this December. Everyone is looking forward for Sustento’s version of Molieres The Micer with Filipino adaptation entitled ANG KURIPOT by Mr. Rolando Tinio. Kuya Joemar as fondly called by members of the company started to perform during his high school days in Iloilo City. He then pursued his performance gigs as member of USA Little Theater of the University of San Agustin. Later on when transferred to Lipa City to finish a course in nursing, he still did not escape the call of stage. Now, he is doing film and theater productively.
Also first time in Batangas’ stage is Oedipus The King, a classic Greek tragedy written by Sophocles. As described by Mr. Nario who will also direct the play, the play is an interdisciplinary works from dance, theater, film and visual artists. ERROL JAVE VILLABOS will create contemporary dance pieces and BARONG TAGALOG INCORPORATED will provide video clips for the production. Villalobos is one of the most sought after choreographer in Mindanao, member of Dagyaw Dance Company and currently the Associate Artistic Director of School of Theater & Dance (STAND) Studio in Cagayan de Oro.  Barong Tagalog is a local production unit and an organization of independent film makers. Also, the play features different visual artists from Lipa City creatingavant garde art pieces for the play’s costumes and production design.

Furthermore, POSIBLE TRES pays tribute to National Artist MR. ROLANDO TINIO. The company will be doing his adaptations of The Micer by Moliere and Oedipus the King by Sophocles adapted as Ang Kuripot at Haring Edipu respectively. Mr. Tinio was known for translating Western classics, which includes the works of Sophocles, Shakespeare, Ibsen, Chekhov, Puccini and Verdi, into Tagalog. He did these translations in order to advance the Filipino language. He was a prolific poet and writer who helped establish the Filipino-language drama in the 1970s. He was made a National Artist of the Philippines for Theater and Literature in 1997.
