THE CCP COLLECTION PREVIEW: CONTEMPORARY FINE PRINTS
Category: exhibit
Selected fine prints from the CCP Collection include early works by National Artists Arturo Luz, Bencab, and Jose Joya as well as printmakers Romulo Olazo, Pandy Aviado, Brenda Fajardo, Raymundo Albano, Impy Pilapil, Benjie Torrado-Cabrera and Evelyn Collantes. Stylistic scope ranges from the conceptual, surreal, abstract and social realist.

BOTONG FRANCISCO AND ANGONO ENVIRONS: PHOTOGRAPHY BY DICK BALDOVINO

In celebration of his birth centennial, National Artist Carlos “Botong” Francisco is the subject of renowned photographer, Dick Baldovino, in this series of black and white photographs from the CCP Collection. A seasoned photo essayist, Baldovino captures Botong, among the first generation of modernist painters, in intimate surroundings within his studio and in Angono among friends and family.

HISTORY OF PHILIPPINE CINEMA

To celebrate Nick Deocampo’s 30th-year
anniversary as a filmmaker and the 115th year of film’s arrival in the Philippines, the prizewinning filmmaker and author celebrates these milestones with the launching of his latest book, Film: American Influences on Philippine Cinema. The events will also kick-off an 8-month lecture series on the history of Philippine Cinema at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

WORKSHOP ON ETCHING

The course focuses on intaglio printing of etching on metal plate as well as the technique of aquatint and soft ground.

WORKSHOP ON BASIC PRINTMAKING TECHNIQUES

The participants will first be introduced to the principles of printmaking and the different printing processes involved in the practice. Hands-on workshop covers four basic printmaking techniques, namely, monotype, rubbercut, collagraph and drypoint.

Philippine Ballet Theater’S Coppélia

Coppélia revolves around a fanatical doll maker, Dr. Coppelius and his creation - a beautiful life-like doll which he secretly dreams of bringing to life. The characters and the plot make this first PBT production an entertaining and joyfull ballet experience for all audiences. Music is by Leo Delibes and choreography by Ronilo Jaynario.

SOFYA GULYAK IN CONCERT

An evening of classical piano music with the renowned Russian pianist. Sofya Gulyak was the first woman to win the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition. She has performed in numerous international concert halls and was also soloist of various well-known orchestras around the world.

2012 NATIONAL FOLK DANCE WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS

This weeklong workshop is especially designed for teachers in all levels,
dance trainors, teachers-in-charge of dance groups, directors and choreographers, including members of dance groups. It aims to upgrade the knowledge, understanding and skills of teachers in the teaching of folk dance; revive the best works of dance researchers from the regions, and pay tribute their contributions in the preservation of folk dance in the country, and the promotion of Arts Education among the youth; provide teachers, dance directors and choreographers resource materials on dance; and help address the problems and concerns of folk dance teachers and trainors.

BALLET PHILIPPINES’ “A GARDEN TALE AND OTHER DANCES”
THE 43RD CCP SUMMER DANCE WORKSHOP SHOWCASE

Be enthralled by the performances of this year’s CCP Summer Dance Workshop students as they dance in the delightful original ballet, “A Garden Tale,” written and choreographed by Noordin Jumalon and the CCPDS faculty. Depicting the idyllic provincial life and a child’s wild imagination amidst the garden, orchard and nearby corn and sugarcane fields using the whimsical music of Leroy Anderson, “A Garden Tale” will warm the hearts of audiences young and old. This will be followed by “Under the Sea,” also a Jumalon original, which will showcase the dances of the workshop’s contemporary and hip-hop classes.

Category: dance
Choreographer Blanca Li takes the urban street dance style electro and mixes it up with some theatre, contemporary dance and an amazing soundtrack. The show features an all male cast of eight exceptional young electro dancers. It’s funny, fast, colourful and anarchic and features an exhilarating especially composed soundtrack by Tao Gutierrez, which mixes techno with electro house, afrobeat, sampling and classical music.
Elektrokif is produced by the CCP in cooperation with Alliance Francaise and the Embassy of France.
