Ballet Philippines & Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group in Trey McIntrye Project @ Market Market

CCP resident companies, Ballet Philippines and Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group perform as special guest artists in a dance show by Trey McIntyre Project (TMP), a contemporary ballet company from Boise, Idaho, USA, at the Activity Center in Market, Market Mall Taguig City, Metro Manila.

The Trey McIntyre Project is in the country to interact and exchange expertise with Filipino dancers and artists in local communities in Manila and Iloilo province on May 6-13, 2012.

TMP’s visit to the Philippines is part of DanceMotion USAsm a program made possible by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and produced in partnership with Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). The program is aimed at sharing the rich dance culture of the USA with international audiences. ( The DanceMotion USAsm project is being hosted by the US Embassy Manila and the Cultural Center of the Philippines through its Cultural Exchange Department.

Trey McIntyre is one of the most sought after choreographers working today. Born in Wichita, Kansas, McIntyre has created a body of more than 90 works for companies such as American Ballet Theatre, Stuttgart Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, New York City Ballet and Ballet Santiago (Chile). In 2010, McIntyre was named the US Artists Wynn Fellow. He is the recipient of the Gold Medal of Lifetime Achievement from the National Society of Arts and Letters, two choreographic fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, and a Choo-San Goh Award for choreography. He formed his acclaimed Trey McIntyre Project in 2008 based in Boise, Idaho and has since focused on creating works that explore the human experience in transformative and captivating ways.

The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is the United States’ oldest performing arts center. The institution is led by President Karen Brooks Hopkins and Executive Producer Joseph V. Melillo. In addition to its local programming, BAM’s reach now extends beyond New York to cities around the globe. Through The Bridge Project, BAM shares classical theater with audiences in such cities as Hong Kong, London, Madrid and Auckland; and with DanceMotion USAsm BAM has continued its cultural exchange initiatives worldwide in Africa, Asia, Central Asia, South America and the Middle East.

In Manila and Iloilo, Philippines, the Trey McIntyre Project will hold creative interactions with the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Dance Group, as well as master classes in ballet, modern dance and technical direction. Two outreach pe performances will be held on May 10, 5:30 PM at the Central Philippine University Rose Memorial Auditorium-Iloilo City and on May 12, 6:00 PM at The Activity Center in Market, Market Mall with Ramon Obusan Folkloric Dance Group and Ballet Philippines as guest performers, in Taguig City Metro Manila. These outreach performances are free to the public and made possible with the support of the Central Philippine University and the Station Square East Commercial Corporation.
