Earth Day 2012 at the CCP

ARTISTS, cultural workers and environmentalists joined in the celebration of Earth Day recently at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) complex with the theme “Luntiang Lungsod, Luntiang Sining” (Green City, Green Arts). The event took place with various activities and performances from 6am to 6pm.

The event started with a 3k fun run at the CCP’s Liwasang Kalikasan simultaneous with an aerobics session at the Harbour Square. Opening ceremonies followed at the Liwasang Kalikasan stage area with the Philippine Marine Drum and Bugle team. Comedian and ventriloquist Wanlu mounted an Earth Day show dubbed as “Wanlu, Wan Earth, Wan Life” at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute. At the Dream Theater, film showings on Mother Earth were screened including “The World Bank: Philippine Climate Change in Coastal Areas”, “Wings in the Water: The Birds in Candaba Swamp”, “Born to be Wild”, “Simpleng Gawain Tungo sa Malalaking Hangarin”, “Donsol” and Nick Deocampo’s “Trailers on the 6 Asian Environmental Documentaries.” The Liwasang Kalikasan area was filled with activities such as art exhibits, doodle eco kids zone, family picnics, recycle zone, plant booths, environmental talks, eco-fashion shows, as well as special band performances and an E-jeep exhibit and tour. A canoe/dragon boat and kayak clinic was also presented.

Earth Day at the CCP was held in cooperation with the Bureau of Plant Industries, Department of Environment and Natural Resources – National Capital Region (DENR-NCR), Department of Tourism, Earth Day Network, E-Jeepney Transport Corporation, GMA 7 Network, Greenpeace Southeast Asia, Harbour Square, Haribon Foundation, International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences (IATSS), Nayong Pilipino Foundation, Net 25, Philippine Canoe Kayak Federation, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Navy, The Firefly Brigade and Winner Foundation.

The event was supported by PLDT, Asia Brewery, Magnolia Purewater, Binalot Fiesta Foods, King Sue, Mr. & Mrs. Ferdinand Tolentino, New Pence Marketing Corporation, Malarayat Golf and Country Club, Water Music, Aqua Best and Land Bank of the Philippines. CCP’s partners included 96.3 Easy Rock, Business Mirror, Business World, DZRH,, Highlife, Manila Broadcasting, Tai Ping Rugs and Carpet, The Manila Times, Traders Hotel Manila, Yes! FM 101.1.
