Make a Difference for Music - All Star OPM Concert

Head to Smart Araneta Coliseum on March 29 and catch "MAD For Music" the all-star OPM concert.

What does it take to make a difference in other people’s lives? Do you have to be rich, powerful or influential? Do you have to be smart, idealistic and brimming with fanciful rhetoric?.

Of course not. All you need is passion, a singular vision, and a concrete plan of action to turn a dream into reality. This is exactly what a group of concerned Atenean lawyers are doing to make real their desire to Make a Difference and contribute towards addressing some of the challenges faced by our country’s marginalized communities.

Driven by their passion for change and their common love for music, Ateneo Law Batch ’88 came up with its battle cry - “Make A Difference” (M.A.D.) - and spearheaded a musical extravaganza featuring some of the best OPM performers who have defined the local musical landscape these last four decades.

To be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on March 29, the all-star concert spectacle, aptly dubbed ‘MAD For Music,’ features Basil Valdez, Pops Fernandez, Billy Crawford, Nikki Gil, Geneva Cruz, Kris Lawrence, Rage Band, Spirit of ’67, Jeffrey Hidalgo, Isabella Gonzales and Ms. Kuh Ledesma, hosted by Grace Lee and directed by Freddie Santos.

With such a powerhouse lineup, get ready to be enthralled and mesmerized by a night-long nostalgic affair that spans across generations bringing together divergent musical styles including sentimental ballads, easy-listening pop, hard-driving rock ‘n roll, groove-inducing disco and even contemporary R&B.

“It’s a dream come true!,” exclaims MAD For Music organizer and Ateneo Law Batch ’88 spokesperson Atty. Raul Gerodias. “Not only is it a great thrill to bring together some of our finest homegrown talents for such a landmark event, but it warms our hearts even more to know that they are as MAD for positive change as we are .”

Proceeds of the concert have been earmarked for Batch ‘88’s social outreach programs, foremost of which is a partnership with Waterhope, a collaborative social enterprise that teams up with NGOs and private groups to provide affordable clean drinking water to the country’s poor, provide a sustainable way of delivering community development services and empowers the entrepreneurial poor by giving them access to water related- livelihood opportunities.

Aside from the Waterhope program, Ateneo Law Batch ’88 intends to continue Making a Difference by running a legal mission and read-along program for an urban poor community in June 2012.
