Care Divas at Onstage Greenbelt this April 2012

The Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (PETA) is announcing the much-awaited encore performances of its hit musical dramedy “Care Divas” this coming April 2012.

These shows will be shown at Onstage, Greenbelt as a result of the first-ever partnership of PETA and Repertory Philippines since the their founding forty-five years ago.

The scheduled encore performances are packed with the same combination of explosive dance numbers, fancy music, comedic antics, and a visual feast of glitter, wigs and high heels that enticed audiences of its earlier shows.

Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program 2013-2014

Established in honor of the late U.S. Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, the fellowship program sends outstanding mid-career Filipino professionals in public service from both the public and private sectors to the United States for a year of university study and work-related practical experience.

National Dance Theater Choreography Competition 2012

A Nationwide search for the most outstanding staging of Philippines folk dances rituals or folk tales.

  1. The dance presentation should be based on researched indigenous materials. Fresh approach to an existing dance work will be accepted as long as it retains the essence of the original folk dance.
  2.  The group must use folk movement. No ballet or contemporary movements will be accepted.
  3.  Live music is required.
  4. Traditional costumes must be used.
  5. The dance presentation must have a running time of not less than 5 minutes and should not exceed 7 minutes including placement of set pieces, entrance and exit.
  6. Competition is open to all provincial groups, with a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 30 members for the presentation excluding musicians.
  7. Choreographer/s must come from the same locality or province.

Dance Xchange 2012 - The International Dance Workshop and Festival

 The NCCA-National Committee on Dance under the leadership of Ms. Shirley Halili-Cruz in partnership with the Province of Cebu under the leadership of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia is holding  Dance Xchange 2012: The International Dance Workshop and Festival with the theme "Cultural Connectivity through Dance”

This event is the Philippine celebration of the International Dance Day and in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 154, declaring the last week of April as the "National Dance Week". Dance Xchange is also one of the banner projects of the Philippines, the Province of Cebu in particular as the ASEAN Cultural Capital for 2012.  This will be held on April 27 – 30, 2012 at the Cebu International Convention Center, Cebu City, Philippines.

An interactive exhibit on Street Dance Festivals featuring the winning contingents from the Visayas, Luzon, and Mindanao, participants of Aliwan Fiesta Street Dance Competition.

History, photography, videos, costumes, headdresses, props, and screenings of past Aliwan Fiesta’s fun and excitement. Presented in cooperation with the Manila Broadcasting Company. Highlight of the exhibit is a fashion show at the Main Theater Lobby of Festival Queens in their fascinating festival costumes.

The St. Anne Theater and Dance Co. (SATDC) a church based, non-profit organization of the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne in Taguig City is  committed to the service of the Lord by training the youth in enhancing their God-given talents in the performing arts.  

This Lenten season, the group continues to support pastoral and cultural activities of the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne  by presenting the Daan ng Dalamhati, a reflection on the 14 stations of the cross through theater, dance, music and prayer.

World Theater Day

Created in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI), World Theatre Day is celebrated annually on March 27 by ITI Centres and the international theatre community. Various national and international theatre events are organized to mark this occasion, such as the creation and circulation of the World Theatre Day International Message through which, at the invitation of ITI, a figure of world stature shares his or her reflections on the theme of Theatre and a Culture of Peace. The International Message is translated into more than 20 languages, read for tens of thousands of spectators before performances in theatres throughout the world.

The Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas, established through Executive Order No. 498 in December 1991, is a biennial award conferred to distinguished Filipino individuals and organizations in recognition of their outstanding contributions to national development efforts, or their outstanding achievements in their field of profession. The awards are also conferred to foreign individuals and organizations that provide assistance to the country or advance the cause of Filipino communities overseas.

Jessica Sanchez Another Strong Performance in American Idol 2012

Jessica Sanchez finished powerfully on her version of Billy Joel's " Everybody has A Dream". It was her third standing ovation with the American Idol judges. With another strong performance, Jessica made it to the top 9. Again she "WOWS" the idol judges. Her chance to win in the American Idol 2012 is getting bigger and bigger.

Elise Testone also wowed the judges and survived the elimination night. The others in Top 9 are Skylar Laine, HOllie Cavanagh, Joshua Ledet, Deandre Brackensick, Colton Dixon, Phillip Phillips and Heejun Han.

Tamawan Village Artists Exhibit at the Ayala Museum

Cordilleran art will be featured in Ayala museum’s artist space bridging the gap cultures divide us by. The Tam-awan village exhibit is on March 21- April 3 at the museum’s artist space.

Tam awan village artists led my Chanum Foundation president Jordan Mango san will a variety of works on various mediums depicting the Cordilleran culture, landscape and way of life. Mango san will feature his piece, Strawberry Field, a solar drawing depicting the beauty of the La Trinidad, strawberry plantations.

A Fruitful and Fulfilling Summer Singing Workshop for Kids in the Philippines

An invitation for those of you who are interested to enrol your kids (son, daughter, niece, nephew, neighbor) to the SPECIAL SUMMER POP SINGING WORKSHOP for KIDS, 8-18 years old.

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila invites everyone to rediscover the century old tradition of the Malibay Cenaculo.

A much photographed/documented public performance of biblical narratives staged during the season of Lent. More than just the usual passion-play, they celebrated Malibay Cenaculo is a visual weaving of piety and artistry in a fabric of pictorial history.

As a closing activity of the photography exhibit "One Day in the City: Pasay", graphic designer Edgar Granada who also hails from a family with 4-generations of Sinkulistas, talks about the history and art of the Cenaculo, discussing elements that makes this pious devotion truly a cultural heritage distincly Pasay.

Forum on the Plight of Traditional Weavers in ASEAN and China

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the country’s prime agency for arts and culture led by its chairman Felipe de Leon, Jr. and executive director Emelita V. Call for Entries : Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibit (Taichung City)

The Dadun fine arts exhibition is an international exhibition annually held by Cultural Affairs Bureau, Taichung City Government. This exhibition aims to enhance cultural exchange at an international level, and to manifest the characteristics of Taichung City.

There are 11 entry categories of the exhibition— crafts, sculpture, digital art, photography, printmaking, water color painting, oil painting, glue color painting, seal engraving, calligraphy and ink wash painting. Deadline of submission is on 13th April, 2012.

Useful Summer Program that can help Develop Your Talent in the Performing Arts

Many young aspiring Pinoy artists are very eager to learn and be trained in the performing arts. One group in the middle of the suburban area of New Manila, Quezon City is doing their part to help these talented people make their dreams come true.

The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) has been conducting annual summer workshops during the months of April and May since its inauguration six years ago. PETA's theater program will benefit young hopefuls in the field of performing arts.

Creative Way to Learn the Basics of Drumming

For thousand of years, the drum has been used for healing purposes throughout the world as a tool for social integration, for restoring harmony in relationships, for improving mental concentration (as well as psychomotor coordination) and for experiencing pure joy.

In this 3-day workshop, you will learn the basics of drumming:
  • proper way of holding a drum
  • proper way of hitting a drum to bring out the right sound
  • simple improvisations
  • 10 basic patterns using the Gong-Gu-Du-Pa-Ta method developed by Tambolista Mike ‘Mitu’ Tupas; some of which are used by the southern tribes in Maguindanao.

Kayumanggi Philippine Performing Arts @ 2012 Canada's Got Talent

A Pinoy Youth Group (Kayumanggi Philippine Performing Arts) based in Canada got "YES"  from the three judges of the 2012 Canada's Got Talent to advance in the next stage of the competition. The group received a standing ovation from the crowd as they render a short performance of muslim dance (Singkil) wearing very colorful costumes.
