CCP Calendar of Events - August 2011


RECENT winners of the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) will be featured in a concert on August 2, 2011, Tuesday, 8 PM at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater) in collaboration with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), with Maestro Olivier Ochanine conducting. Entitled Classical Champs: A Concert of NAMCYA Winners, the concert will showcase young soprano Myramae T. Meneses, guitarist Franco Raymundo Moscardon Maigue and pianists Albert Roldan and Mikhail Lastrilla.

The program will open with Brahms’ Tragic Overture by the PPO with Maestro Olivier Ochanine conducting. The rest of the programme includes Mozart’s Alleluja from ‘Exsultate Jubilate,’ Velez’ Sa Kabukiran, Donizetti’s Prendi per me sei from ‘L’elisir d’amore’ and So anchio la virtu magica from ‘Don Pasquale’ to be performed by soprano Myramae T. Meneses; Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez to performed by guitarist Franco Raymundo Moscardon Maigue; and Poulenc’s Concerto in D minor for two pianos and orchestra to performed by pianists Albert Roldan and Mikhail Lastrilla.

A NAMCYA 2010 1st prize winner, Myramae Tapia Meneses is a third year college student at St. Scholastica's College, Manila, taking up Bachelor of Music, majoring in voice, minor in piano and a Battig Music Foundation scholar. At 18 years of age, she is the youngest among the NAMCYA participants, having been awarded the lone top prize for Category C (female sub-category), which is the highest level for the National vocal competition. Aside from being a student of soprano Camille Lopez-Molina, Myramae has been a member-soloist of the St. Scholastica's High School Glee Club, a violinist, and trained under the PREDIS, a teaching program for strings of the St. Scholastica's College, Manila School of Music.

Guitarist Franco Raymundo Moscardon Maigue is first prize winner of the 2005 Competitions for Young Artists and top prizewinner of the 2002 and 2009 National Music Competitions for Young Artists. He was also featured as a soloist accompanied by the Manila Symphony Orchestra at the First Philippine International Guitar Festival in 2010. Aside from being a captivating solo performer, he is an active chamber musician, having been a member of several groups including the UP Guitar Orchestra, Kithara Quartet, Abelardo Guitar Quartet and the UP Jazz Ensemble. He finished his Bachelor of Music degree at the UP College of Music, cum laude.

Albert Napoleon J. Roldan started taking piano lessons at the age of four. He studied with esteemed piano mentors Asuncion Laureola, Dean Mauricia Borromeo, Prof. Augusto A. Espino and Prof. Luci A. Magalit, all from the University of the Philippines College of Music. He recently graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance, performing Prokofiev’s 3rd Piano Concerto with the Metro Manila Community Orchestra in his recital. For the past 18 years, Albert has performed in different venues such as the Abelardo Hall in UP Diliman, St. Cecilia’s Hall in St. Scholastica Manila, Philamlife Auditorium, Fleur-de-lis Auditorium in St. Paul’s Manila, The Discovery Suites, Cultural Center of the Philippines, Bayanihan Hall of United Laboratories, Molina Hall of BDO (formerly PCIBank) Tower, the UP Vargas Museum, Benpres Museum, GSIS Museum, Greenhills Christian Fellowship Ortigas, Concert at the Park, Paco Park Presents, Shangri-la Makati and the Asian Theological Seminary. He played once for the Manila Chamber Singers and performed avant-garde music compositions for the Manila Composers' Lab (2010). He has also been featured in the Philippine Daily Inquirer (2002), on AM radio (DZUP) and on national television (PTV 4).

Mikhail Lastrilla has been playing the piano for almost 10 years. In 2008, he won 1st prize at the UP College of Music Piano Competition. In 2010, he was a top-prize winner at NAMCYA. He has also participated in international music festivals, such as OPUSFEST 2008 and the Manila Composer’s Lab 2010. He is currently studying music in the UP College of Music.
