Vamos A Belen

Presented By:
Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group
St. Anne Theater and Dance Company
Teatro Miguel

The Project

This is the staging of National Artist for Dance, Ramon Obusan’s+ “Vamos A Belen”, an anthology of our Pastores (shepherd’s singing dancing, reciting , playing their way to visit the Christ Child) where we are invited (Tayo na sa Belen),

DATE: December 26, 2009 (Saturday) 7 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.
VENUE: Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne church (inside the church)

Proceeds of the production will go to the pastoral programs of the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne and to fund its gift-giving activities for the indigents (or continued relief operation) this Christmas. And through sponsorships and ticket sales, SATDC also aims to raise funds for its educational and community projects specifically for the youth in 2010.

The Concept

“Vamos A Belen” has two high points, each one of them significant to better understand the pastores tradition as the only nationwide celebrated Christmas tradition, under the tutelage of the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, the country’s premier dance company who documents, performs and promotes the fast-fading Filipino traditions with special emphasis on music and dance. Dance Direction is by Christine Obusan-Singson.

The first high point is significantly interpreted in the “bookends” of the show. The first careful collection of the posadas (Christmas story) and many spectacular events that attend it. The practices that are no longer performed and those that are almost at the brink of extinction are delicately put together creating a wondrous Christmas of old.

The second bookend simply mimics the glitz and glamour of large department stores brimming with lights, music and all that Hollywood and Disneyland spectacle having overshadowed the true meaning of Christmas – Peace on Earth and Goodwill to Man.
