Call for Participants: ASIAN Youth Choir for One (AYCO) in Seoul, South Korea

The Music for One Foundation, a performing arts-based humanitarian organization, is inviting participants from the Philippines to join in this year’s Asian Youth Choir for One (AYCO) which will be held on November 22 - December 5, 2014 in Seoul, South Korea.

With the goal of promoting performing arts and culture without borders through music that promotes peace, this international youth choir will be composed of 40 musicians coming from 10 ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) and South Korea. The organizers are in search of four representatives from each country which should be composed of 3 choir members, and 1 could be a representative of an institution or school. Musicians who are 20-29 years old are eligible to apply.

AGYU: Patungo sa Paraiso - A One of a Kind Theater Play

A one of a kind theatre performance comes to stage which not only aims to be a truly unique experience but also be culturally relevant. De La Salle College of St. Benilde’s Arts Management program and Siklab Productions bring you AGYU: Patungo sa Paraiso, showing on November 26 to 29 at the Black Box theater of DLS-CSB.

This piece is directed by Delphine Buencamino, a freelance theater actress, choreographer and teacher. She crosses over the worlds of theater and dance working with companies like the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and Tanghalang Pilipino. Performers Al Garcia, Merdin Mojica and Raflesia Bravo along with dramaturges Giselle Garcia and Amihan Ruiz work hand in hand with Delphine in bringing Philippine oral tradition to the setting of modern day Manila. Choreography will be accompanied by the original compositions of Pepe Manikan, member of the band Eternal Now and full time faculty at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

The beautiful and timeless story of love and transformation behind one of the most-loved fairy tales of all time will hold fans spellbound when the original Broadway musical spectacular makes its debut on January 9-25, 2015 at the Main Theater (Nicanor Abelardo Hall) of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City.

Romeo and Juliet: The Musical in Star City

As a season offering to all young adults, Kids Acts Philippines proudly presents “Romeo and Juliet” edited with additional lyrics by Luigi Nacario and music by Eugene Belbis.

This William Shakespeare’s novel will be staged by maintaining the classic requirement of the play from costumes to the set. The music is composed through a fusion of western and eastern with contemporary flavor. “Romeo and Juliet” is simplified without sacrificing the original texts of Shakespeare to let young adults understand and comprehend on how the play is written. In the play, dialogues are sung with full observance of how phrases are being read.

Sayaw Pinoy 2014 National Dance Competition

Call for Participants: Sayaw Pinoy 2014 National Dance Competition
The National Committee on Dance of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts under the leadership of Josefina B. Guillen has organized the 2014 Sayaw Pinoy: The NCCA National Dance Competition as part of its efforts to promote dance in its various forms. This year the competition is on folk dance, contemporary and hip hop.
The program aims to stress the importance of the competition as it raises the artists’ consciousness of the value of artistic excellence. It provides opportunity for artists to exploit and maximize their true potential. It also hopes to teach emotional fitness through teamwork as the group experience will bring about dependability, responsibility, commitment, sportsmanship, discipline, creativity and awareness of the value of the art of dance. Consequently, acquiring the value of working together as a team towards common goals which will extend to daily undertakings beyond the competition.

Indigenous Peoples Festival By NCCA

A celebration of Philippine indigenous cultures

Most of the indigenous groups of the Philippines will gather together from October to November to celebrate their traditional cultures and heritage in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples’ Month.
Said to be biggest gathering of Philippine indigenous peoples (IP) by far, Dayaw 2014: The Indigenous Peoples Festival, annually held by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the government agency for arts and culture headed by its chairman Felipe M. De Leon Jr., will showcase traditional cuisines, games, rituals, dances, songs, practices and crafts in effort to engender wider awareness and appreciation for indigenous cultures, which are constantly under the threat of vanishing. It will also as a venue for different indigenous ethnic groups to interact with each other and to learn from one another as well as to express their views on issues concerning them.
